Hey there guys,
The college has decided in sponsoring laptops from IBM, for students and staff. The model is the IBM Thinkpad G41 which is a low budget laptop and one which can satisfy all ur low end multimedia and office work. The body is sturdy and its got the best keyboard you can find in laptops, which is according to online reviews and opinions. I seen the thing myself and i found it decent for a students need. It can be recommended to those rough handlers too as for the sturdy casing. On the multimedia side, this things got a decent enough grfx card but dont expect even casual gaming on this rig. The card is intel based (i dont know which series actually) and one can go gaming to aoe 2 or nfs5 on a limit( he he Very Happy ) ...(you guys can check and see if u can go more). If you have a knack for image, sound or video editing, increasing the ram can be a plus point but the hardware is not much too compatible. But for office work, this thing is more than enough. The G41 has a non glossy screen. On weight terms, its a bit on the heavy side, with around 3 kg (2.8 to be approximate).
In the outside market, this machine costs around 45-48,000 Rs. But here, in the college, its priced around Rs 33,700/-. Its noticeably affordable. The college actually planned to provide these for students from MBA but i heard that it is open to all. The payment seems to be on an installment basis with an initial payment of Rs 5,000/- ( Unconfirmed end remark).

The specs of this machine are as follows:

Intel Pentium 4 3.7GHz (Yes...u read it rite..this baby's got 3.67GHz on load)
512 MB DDR Ram
1 MB L1 Cache ( i will check upon this and get back to you if there is a change)
80 GB HDD ( 5400 r.p.m)
Wireless Lan ( 802.11 b/g)
No Trackpad, instead there is a small pressure stick in midst the keyboard. If you want to move about using the mouse pointer, you just have to apply pressure gently on the stick towards the desired side. Its not that bad. Once you get used to it, you will find that its better than the track pad. And smoother.
2 Usb slots
10/100 Ethernet Lan
DVD Reader + CD Writer = DVD Combo (*not a good thing for those heavy storage guys)
VGA Port
~NO Bluetooth~

The specs part are a bit incomplete except for the major components. I will be back once i get the whole thing which will be within a few hours or so. According to a report only 50 m/cs are available at the moment of which 35 are taken by MBA. Another 10 has been reserved for staff. So the remaining 5 are in the open ( Wink ). Up for grabs. First come, first serve. The college doesnt know what kind of response this can create. But if this gets a good one, who knows , maybe this offer can come again.

Thanks for reading. Get to me if u got anything on ur mind, any complaint or suggestion, anything, about this report. I am open.
