"When neglibly Small become significantly Big"
1. While design of new technologies in any branch of physical engineering is undertaken, both at conceptual stage as well as testing of prototypes, and testing under regular production, there are serious grey areas which if leftout due to ignorance or complacency can result in catostrophic accidents.
2.Understading universal truths in science and technology ,so that majority of the other catagory of truths which are truths only under bounding conditions are distictly seperated and understood as well as internalised.
3. Desingn trade offs V/s compromises.Understanding the economic implications of these two as ethical and not ethical.
4.Few case studies from accident investigations.
5.Few case studies in the catagory of problem solving at prototype testing stage as well as commissioning stage.

I'll try to explain what I understood from the above post...
There's going to be a talk by Mr. George C Paul ,Managing director and chief design Engineer of Pet Electro Trades which is conducted by IEEE.
He is going to try and explain to us how things that we neglect as being small, actually turns out to be a big issue in the end...for example, on a really, really small scale...suppose you don't bother to re-fill the ink in your pen on an exam day assuming that there would be enough left to complete the exam,(you might ask, who even uses ink-pens these days! but ya, there are people!) and it turns out that the ink is over, you're in a difficult situation...what you ignored as a small thing, turns out into a problem, imagine if the incident happens during the last 10 minutes of the exam during which we try and squeeze in a lot, it could end up as a crisis!
The stuff he is going to talk about is something on a bigger scale, more to do with problems we may face once we join an industry...the incident I quoted is just an example so that its easier to understand...
P.S.:We're finally seeing what I intended this forum to be...people posting stuff and others interacting...way to go guys! |
